The short version
DebtPivot is free for you. We may earn a referral fee when you choose to be connected with a partner, such as a debt settlement company, personal loan lender or credit counseling agency, through our assessment or through a partner link on our site. That fee never adds to what you pay.
When we might get paid
- You take our free assessment, ask to be connected, and we pass your information to a partner.
- You click a link to a partner and sign up, apply, or enroll.
We don't get paid when you use our calculators, read our guides, or follow our links to government agencies and nonprofits like the CFPB, FTC, StudentAid.gov, legal aid offices or 211.
What payment never changes
- Free options are always shown. Do-it-yourself payoff, nonprofit credit counseling and free government programs appear next to the paid options, even when they're the better fit.
- Partners can't buy our opinion. They can't pay to change what we say about an option, its fees or its risks.
- We only connect you if you ask. Taking the assessment doesn't automatically send your information to anyone.
Companies we mention
Some pages name well-known companies (for example, large settlement firms, lenders or card issuers) so you know what to compare. Naming a company is not an endorsement, and it doesn't mean we have a business relationship with it. Before you sign up with any debt relief company, check it with the CFPB complaint database, your state attorney general and, for settlement companies, the ACDR.
When we have active partner relationships, links to those partners are marked as sponsored, and we'll name the partners on this page.
Why we tell you this
Federal Trade Commission rules require websites to clearly disclose material connections like referral fees. Beyond the rules, it's the right way to treat people who are already under financial stress.
