How to read your results
- If there's a gap (you're short every month): no repayment plan works until the gap closes. Start with the free help: a nonprofit credit counselor, 211 for local assistance with bills, and, if you're behind and being sued, our lawsuit guide. Settlement or a bankruptcy consultation may be worth looking at.
- If you have a little left over: a nonprofit debt management plan can often lower your interest rates enough that the same money goes further.
- If you have a solid cushion: you may not need a debt relief company at all. The avalanche method (extra money to the highest rate first) or a 0% balance transfer can be the cheapest path. Try the payoff and snowball calculators.
The payoff estimate assumes your balance, average rate and monthly payment stay the same and no new charges are added. It's a rough guide, not a quote. This tool is educational and isn't financial advice.
